Technical Writing Sample 1

Turn Off (or Turn On) Windows XP Modem Sound

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. The Network Connections window opens.

  2. Right-click a connection, and then click Properties on the shortcut menu. The Properties dialog box for that connection opens.

  3. On the General tab, click Configure.

  4. At the bottom of the dialog box, select or clear the check box for Enable modem speaker, and then click OK.

  5. Click OK in the Properties dialog box to close it.

NOTE:   If you want to turn the modem sound off or on, and if the above procedure does not work, open Internet Explorer and click Tools > Internet Options > Connections. Then click Settings > Properties > Configure. You will then see what appears to be the same Modem Configuration dialog box that you previously opened in the procedure above. Select or clear the check box again. Then click OK in each open dialog box to close it.

  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options. The Phone and Modem Options dialog box opens. Click the Modems tab.

  2. Select the modem, and then click the Properties button at the bottom of the dialog box.

  3. Click the Modem tab, use the Speaker volume control to set the volume level, and then click OK.

  4. Click OK in the Phone and Modem Options dialog box to close it.


NOTE:   To completely turn off the modem sound (or to turn the modem sound on), you need to disable (or enable) the modem by performing the procedure at http://www.granatedit.com/xpmodemsound.html.

Once your e-mail is received, the network coordinator will forward it (plus any attached files) to the consultants you selected. If no selection is made, your submission will be forwarded to several consultants who might be a good match. Final choice of consultant is yours.
